Sunday Thinking

So I am going onto week four of working in Crete and I cannot tell you how fast it is going by!!!! I am literally learning so much and have been able to have so many great experiences. Like the other night the town I am staying in had a little party to celebrate the archaeologists working on the different excavations near by and basically thanking us for educating the world about these places and letting outsiders know about there home. And they had free food and live music and Greek dancing!!!!!! The dancing  was definitely my favorite part. There are two different dances the four step and the eleven step. The four step is super easy until they start speeding up the tempo an I have yet to try and actually attempt the eleven step but possibly before I leave ill be able to master it. I've been very fortunate to be able to come here and travel around the island and see different places. So as I sit here with the Mediterranean Sea stretched out infront of me I am reminded of something that I thought of on my twentieth birthday. When I turned twenty I decided to call the next ten years of my life my roaring twenties basically I want to accomplish and do as much as possibly in my twenties. I have read how people set things aside because they think they have their entire lives but in reality life goes by fast and sometimes the hinges we set aside thinking we have forever to do may never actually get done. Some of my goals in my twenties is to graduate undergrad, get into a medical school or graduate program, travel every nook and cranny the world has to offer, and just enjoy life and all it has to offer. So only 23 days until I come home!!!! Again I just thank my parents for allowing me to experience this mind boggling journey and I miss everyone at home very much and can't wait to see everyone.
Miss you lots and love you tons!!!

Week Three

I literally cannot believe that I've already been working three weeks the time is literally flying by. I really do love the work they have me doing it is technically the more scientific part of the excavation. And it's kinda of neat that I get to supervise people too. I don't think an undergrad student gets to do as much as I've been doing and I'm very grateful for it.  After working on Saturday people were going to catch the 1:45 bus to ierapatra. Most of the people were going to sit on the beach all day but because of my fair albino like skin I opted for the shopping group. I love shopping in other countries because I love finding little pieces to take to people back home and ierapatra has so many cute things that I can't wait to buy everything I need. So then we hopped on the six o clock bus back to Pachia Ammos and showered and went to dinner. Speaking of food the food in Crete is so amazing!!!!! I always snack on gelato when we are traveling around the island because its so cheap and delicious!!! And the cafes, restaurants, and bakeries are just so delicious. And I love that tzatziki is the Greeks ketchup and its so delicious!!!! So then on Sunday we went to Sitia and went to a museum there where I saw some if the coolest stuff ever such as a skeleton. Then from there we headed to some more excavation sites, which its really interesting going to all these sites and noticing the differences and things thy have in common. Then while in Zakaros we stopped at a cafe and I had the most amazing chocolate filled crepe it was so delicious especially when you're starving from walking all the sites. Then we headed back to Pachia Ammos and I took an hour nap because I was just so exhausted then got up bought some groceries for the week and went to the Internet cafe to upload some pictures from my day and grabbed a delicious Greek sandwich while I was there. Oddly enough it was so windy and actually chilly I came back to our place early than planned because I was actually freezing. Then I just puttered around texting family cleaning my stuff up. So everything is going great and I'm learning so much and seeing so much of the island too. Ill write again soon!!
Lots of love
